Ragon Participates in 4th Annual Global Health Expo

For the fourth year in a row, the Ragon Institute International Program participated in the Massachusetts General Hospital Global Health Expo, sponsored by the Mass General Center for Global Health.

The event was held Wednesday, May 6 at the MGH main campus and over 40 organizations, representing multiple departments and specialties, were on hand to showcase the diversity of projects around the world.  Staff are informed of international and domestic opportunities available for all levels.  Additionally food and refreshments were provided along with drawing with great prizes.

Ragon International Programs Director Dr. Filippos Porichis manned the table along with Muska Hassan and Kylerose Delaney.  They answered questions from members of the MGH community and informed them of research opportunities in South Africa and beyond.

The display included informational brochures and a video slideshow of images from Ragon’s programs in South Africa.  Music CDs produced by the  Sinikithemba Choir, a choral group made up of HIV-positive individuals in Kwa-Zulu Natal, were also distributed. The group, active from 1996 until 2008, used the proceeds from sales of their “Living Hope” CD to pay for medical treatment of group members.

“The Global Health Expo provides a great opportunity to strengthen interactions and build collaborations within the MGH community,” said Dr. Porichias.  “The goal is to boost our efforts to improve clinical care, research activities and educational footprint in developing countries.”
