Moura Silva Lab Student named to 2025 HHMI Gilliam Fellows Program

The Ragon Institute congratulates Anika Hutton of the Moura-Silva Lab on her selection to the 2025 cohort of the Howard Hughes Medical Institute (HHMI) Gilliam Fellows Program. Hutton, a PhD student advised by Hernandez Moura Silva, joins a national community of emerging scientists committed to impactful research and inclusive training environments.

The Gilliam Fellows Program supports both graduate students and their thesis advisors, providing up to three years of dissertation funding, tailored professional development, and opportunities to connect with peers, alumni, and HHMI scientists. Fellows and advisors participate in programming designed to advance scientific excellence and inclusive mentorship across the research enterprise.

At the Ragon Institute, Hutton trains in the Moura-Silva Lab, which investigates how immune cells—including macrophages—support organ physiology and metabolism. By mapping the cellular and molecular circuits that maintain tissue homeostasis, the lab aims to reveal strategies that can be tuned in health and disease to inform new therapies.

The Ragon Institute is proud to celebrate Hutton’s achievement and recognize the dedication of the Moura Silva Lab to advancing immunology and mentoring the next generation of scientists.
