We are proud to recognize Sophie Giguere, PhD, a Batista Lab graduate student who has been honored with the prestigious 2023 Jeffrey Modell Prize.
This award, conferred jointly by the Jeffrey Modell Foundation and the Harvard Medical School Graduate Committee of Immunology, recognizes HMS graduates for outstanding achievements in their doctoral research and overall excellence in immunology.
The award was previously given to Ragon faculty members and Early Independence Fellows Charles Evavold, PhD, in 2021, and Wilfredo Garcia-Beltran, PhD, in 2016, underscoring the continued excellence and impact of our researchers.
The award ceremony was held April 24 on the Harvard campus, with a special Fred Rosen lecture by HMS faculty Diane Mathis, PhD.
Please join us in congratulating Dr. Giguere!
Researchers at the Ragon Institute of Mass General Brigham, MIT, and Harvard have uncovered critical insights into how aging impairs the immune system’s ability to fight cancer.
This study, published in Immunity on August 30, used a non-human primate model to demonstrate that previous Mtb infection leads to a durable, protective immune response that is dependent on CD4+ T cells.
MIT researchers find that the first dose primes the immune system, helping it to generate a strong response to the second dose, a week later.
