Dr. Galit Alter, Associate Professor of Medicine at the Ragon Institute, has been named to the 2017 Class of MGH Research Scholars by the Executive Committee on Research (ECOR) at the Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH).  This is the second time that Dr. Alter has received this award, having been named an MGH Research Scholar in 2012 as well.

The MGH Research Scholars fund was established in 2011 to provide forward-thinking researchers with the funding they need to take their work into new and uncharted territories. The program founds their belief on the idea that talented scientists who are given free rein to explore new frontiers are the ones who often make the greatest advances.

This year, Dr. Alter was one of a class of eight who were selected from 76 applications submitted by investigators across the entire MGH research community.

The funds from this five-year award can be used to expand the scope of existing research, purchase new equipment, hire additional researchers or otherwise support the investigative efforts of scholars.

“The MGH Scholars has had a transformative impact on my career,” said Dr. Alter.  “It allows me to move nimbly into high risk areas of research, and I am ecstatic at the prospect of being honored again to continue to make important contributions to the development of vaccines to end global epidemics.”
