Ragon Institute

Centralized Research Services

Our Services

The Ragon Institute’s Centralized Research Services provide essential resources to researchers both within and beyond the Institute, supporting scientific discovery with access to specialized tools, cutting-edge technology, and professional expertise.

Through a combination of paid Core Services and funded Platforms, researchers are equipped with world-class capabilities to advance their work across diverse fields of study.

Our Cores—available to both Ragon and external research teams—include state-of-the-art services like Flow Cytometry and Microscopy, designed to facilitate groundbreaking research through access to advanced instrumentation. Meanwhile, Ragon-funded Platforms, such as Biostatistics, Clinical, and Tissue Platforms, offer invaluable support at no cost to Ragon members and affiliates.

Together, these services propel scientific innovation and foster transformative discoveries.

Cores

Biosafety Level 3 (BSL-3) Core

The Ragon Institute’s BSL-3 core provides biosafety level 3 laboratory space, training, and consultation for academic and industrial researchers working with risk group 3 pathogens, such as Mycobacterium tuberculosis, SARS-CoV-2, Chikungunya virus, West Nile virus, Powassan virus, Japanese Encephalitis virus, Dabie bandavirus, Heartland virus, Bhanja virus, and others.

Flow Cytometry Core

The Ragon Institute’s Flow Cytometry Core provides access to a range of different instrumentation for flow cytometry, a technique that enables researchers to identify and quantify different cell types within a sample by measuring the presence of markers used to label the cells.

Microscopy Core

The Ragon’s Microscopy Core provides cutting-edge imaging technologies to answer fundamental questions in immunology and infectious disease research.

Platforms

Biostatistics Platform

The Biostatistics Platform provides researchers within the Ragon Institute with expertise in planning, conducting, and analyzing research.

Cellular Immunology Database Platform

The Cellular Immunology Database is a centralized and secure database essential to the Ragon’s clinical coordinators, regulatory and research staff, and central processing lab.

Clinical Platform

The Clinical Platform recruits and enrolls subjects in Ragon Institute specimen collection studies and first-in-human clinical trials.

Processing Lab Platform

The Processing Lab processes clinical samples so that they can be studied by researchers across the Ragon Institute.

Protein Production Platform

The Protein Production team produces recombinant proteins, such as the SARS-CoV-2 spike protein, upon request to Ragon Members and Core Members.

Tissue Platform

The Tissue Platform supports research of tissue-specific immunity and human disease. The team provides fresh and fixed tissue samples for research and training for the processing of human samples.

Research

Our research draws on the wealth of cross-disciplinary knowledge created by our collaborative approach — understanding that progress comes not from silos of expertise, but from working together across scientific fields.
