This year, Dr. Todd Allen was one of nine Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) researchers chosen to receive the MGH Research Scholar Award.

 

The Research Scholar Award, established at MGH in 2011 by means of a $10 million anonymous donation, provides $500,000 of unrestricted funding over the course of five years to innovative investigators, giving them the flexibility to pursue projects that may lead in unexpected directions.

 

“Mass General has so many research superstars. It’s important to identify them, kick-start their research and reduce the time they spend on obtaining funding so they can focus on their important work.” said Research Advisory Council Member, Dr. James Cash, Jr.

 

Faculty-level researchers who devote at least 80 percent of their time to research and who do not already have significant, flexible support are eligible for application.

 

Applications are reviewed and ranked by MGH’s Executive Committee on Research (ECOR) with the final selection being made by the MGH Research Scholars Award Committee, which is comprised of renowned scientists from within and outside MGH.

 

“We are honored by the visionary philanthropists that have made this opportunity possible,” said Dr. Allen.  “These funds are truly transformative to enable us to pursue some of our most promising translational studies towards preventing human infections.”

 

This award was previously awarded to Dr. Galit Alter.  The Ragon Institute is proud to be the home of so many innovative scientists.
