Ragon Institute faculty member Dr. Douglas Kwon has been recognized for his mentorship by Harvard Medical School.
In the field of research, mentoring is crucial in order to encourage and support the career development of the next generation of young scientists who will build on existing scientific knowledge to achieve common goals. Mentoring requires a commitment of time and energy and a notable concern for others.
The Office for Diversity Inclusion & Community Partnership of Harvard Medical School awards the Young Mentor Award annually to recognize extraordinary mentors in the field of science and healthcare. Nominators are encouraged to nominate mentors who provided “sponsorship, encouragement and support for the career and/or personal development of… faculty, trainees, and students.”
A celebration for the 2013-2014 mentoring award winners will be held on Thursday, June 12, 2014 at the Carl Walter Amphitheater on the Harvard Medical School campus. Dr. Joan Reede, Dean for Diversity and Community Partnership, will present the award trophies to each mentor who will then have the opportunity to make comments.
The Ragon institute is proud to be home to faculty members like Dr. Kwon who recognize the importance of nurturing young scientists and give of their time and energy in this way.
