Corleis Awarded Postdoc Recognition Award

Dr. Björn Corleis, postdoctoral fellow at Ragon, has been selected as this year’s winner of the Postdoc Recognition Award by the Mass General Postdoc Association (MGPA).

The MGPA serves the MGH postdoctoral community, providing support for research and career related matters across the hospital. The Postdoc Recognition Award is designed to recognize outstanding postdoctoral fellows.

During his years at the Ragon Institute, Dr. Corleis has been highly active in organizing the seminar series and has been noted for his friendly, collaborative nature.

The MGPA award winners are nominated by their fellow postdocs.

Björn is a cornerstone of our lab,” said a fellow Kwon Lab member. “He cares deeply about the members of his team and the validity of our science and is driven to address questions of importance. He readily makes himself available to talk through experimental issues and frequently gives his time/expertise by performing after-hours cell sorting, not only for our lab mates, but also for others at the Ragon Institute. We would be in trouble without him!”

“Bjorn is a hard-working, dedicated postdoc in our Institute,” said another nominator. “He is a great colleague… and has been
an important part of the postdocs’ life and well-being in our Institute by serving as a postdoc representative and being a liaison between the faculty and the postdoctoral fellows.

Corleis and other award winners were honored at the MGPA annual meeting on January 21, 2015.

Said Dr. Corleis, “I certainly would like to thank my colleagues who nominated me. I’m glad I can be of help for others. I always had colleagues in my career who helped me out when I was new at a place or wanted to learn a new method. I try to give back the help I received. It seems to be true that if you help someone out it is more likely that this person helps someone else next time. I think this is what makes a place special and great science possible.”
